Addison Grace (he/they) is a well known TikTok creator based in Salt Lake City. This past week, he officially released “I Wanna Be a Boy,” the song that helped him forward on a path of self discovery, and overall helped them settle into his nonbinary identity, and spread acceptance far and wide in the process.

With a passion in the LGBTIA+ community, ‘I Wanna Be a Boy” allowed Grace to give a voice to the voiceless. He leaves the messages that experimenting with who you are is okay, and he truly believes that ‘normal’ does not exist. Grace also touches on topics including mental health and living with ADHD, and in the process has obtained 3.8 million followers on TikTok, almost 400,000 followers on Instagram, and 200,000 YouTube subscribers.

“I initially started writing it when I was questioning a lot of things about myself. I’m very open with how I identify online and I’ve always openly been a queer creator, queer musician, and at that time I was really not understanding how I identified with my gender and how I felt about it… With time, I realized it was very much me explaining — in song form — that I wasn’t a girl and that I was nonbinary instead.”

“I Wanna Be a Boy” is immensely touching in both writing and sound. Grace’s hard-earned ability of singing shines beautifully in every second of the track, as he speaks about who he wishes he was, and coming to terms with the difficulty of acceptance. At first, Grace wants to be a boy to impress someone, to be seen as a potential lover in their eyes. What he didn’t know then, were that these feelings were something much deeper, and more personal to himself that he could ever imagine.
