The truth is an essential part of human existence. Despite that, our relationship with it has been quite hostile to say the least. So much so that we go the extra mile to conceal it and even twist it to serve a narrative. That’s because the truth hurts, big time. To quote the legendary author Mark Twain (1835- 1910), “The truth is rarely pure and never simple.”.
Flock of birds swiftly scooping up a worm, iconic rock band Traindodge sweeps in with their latest song entitled ‘Face Thieves’. Released July 7th in all major streaming platforms via Spartan Records and part of their 8th LP “The Alley Parade”. ‘Face Thieves’ is a track about a mysterious figure hiding in plain sight. A shape shifter spilling tea, we get a sense that they enjoy keeping a moral ambiguity. Are they good, bad, both? No one knows. As the lyrics would say “Who knows what goes down when you’re not around? True or wrong, let me have my mistake.”.
Gifted with an endearing yet passionate sound, Traindodge treats us to relevant smart commentary. Transcending the simple tale of identity and playing mind games for the heck of it. Traindodge makes a clever allegory about the truth and how it’s used. Part of society but completely detached living out in a remote island somewhere. We only put it forth when it’s convenient to us. In the case that it threatens to burst our bubble or hurt others, we’re more than happy to give it a ticket back into hiding.
Similar to the enigma speaking to us through the tune moving among the shadows and popping in once in awhile. “What goes down in the shadows? It’s only what it takes. What goes down when you’re not around? It’s my mistake.”. ‘Face Thieves’ reminds us that some of us can’t handle the truth. So we leave it in the background like a mask, only to pick it up when we feel like it. Akin to a thief’s intent, this is a selfish act that should be brought to light. Not to shame the sinner, instead to stop it from spreading altogether.
