A Musical “Meteorite” Has Arrived: Holly Hollows and DNNNY’s Cross-Genre Collab

Holly Hollows has teamed up with DNNNY (Daniel James Bruckbauer) for “Meteorite,” a track that blends pieces of indie, country, alternative, and pop into something memorable.

“Meteorite” opens with a country-leaning arrangement before DNNNY’s deep vocals step in, soon followed by Holly’s voice. The two trade verses before meeting in the chorus, where their harmonies lock in and the song hits its stride.

The pair pulls from a wide range of influences, including singer-songwriter poetry. Names like Willie Nelson, Sierra Ferrell, Brandi Carlile, and Fleetwood Mac come up, along with the lyric-driven styles of Joni Mitchell and Adrianne Lenker. However, while the inspirations are clear, “Meteorite” finds its own space, striking a balance between grounded storytelling and an experimental edge.

The song’s roots go back to a morning when Holly woke up with a feeling she couldn’t shake. She turned it into a poem that same day and recorded a demo almost immediately. That poem became the heart of “Meteorite,” later expanding into a full track. It’s also tied to Holly’s OUTRO the Musical, DNNNY’s first dive into country music, showing just how far his versatility can stretch.

Holly Hollows, the project of Los Angeles–based artist Holly Anne Mitchell, is known for her background in theater and poetry, mixing them alongside her music. Her work often explores themes of recovery and transformation, with a mix of intimacy and theatricality. She’s brought this approach to her debut album, her stage productions, and now “OUTRO,” her new musical currently touring the West Coast.

DNNNY, originally from Fargo and now based in Los Angeles, built his name with his soulful R&B style. His debut single, “Daisies,” introduced listeners to his powerful vocals, and his following has only grown since. With “Meteorite” and his involvement in “OUTRO,” he adds country to the list of genres where he feels right at home.

Together, Holly Hollows and DNNNY have created a track that bridges genres while telling a story rooted in raw emotion. “Meteorite” is proof that when two distinct voices collide, they can create something bigger than either on their own.
