Critically acclaimed singer-songwriter Neal Francis brings us his latest single “What’s Left Of Me.”

The Chicago-based singer-songwriter and pianist Neal Francis dropped his latest single “What’s Left Of Me” as a part of his third studio album Return To Zero. The three-years-long wait for his newest, full-length studio production is almost over as Return To Zero releases on March 14. Starting to take piano lessons at the tender age of four years old, he grew with his music ever since. In high school, he played in his first band, Reverend Funk Connection and live with blues artists such as Mud Morganfield after graduating. In 2017, he recorded his first album Changes, with a release in 2019, followed by In Plain Sight in 2021. The album rose to critical acclaim, earning praise from The Rolling Stone, with a focus on the single “Can’t Stop the Rain,”

“Singer-songwriter Neal Francis captures a sound that’s somewhere between Elton John and Little Feat on “Can’t Stop the Rain,” the first single from his upcoming ATO Records album In Plain Sight. Stinging slide guitar by Derek Trucks plays against rolling, funky piano licks, while Francis just lets the troubles of this world roll off his shoulder. “It’s always gonna fall, but you’re not gonna drown,” he sings, and for four minutes, his tune will keep you afloat.”

Francis’ art feels like straight out of a different time, bringing us an intriguing blend of ’70s-era dance music and good old rock ‘n’ roll. Fitting for the era this style of music is set in, he went the extra mile, giving his album an analog heart, creating his masterpiece without digital programming.

Co-written by Chris Gelbuda, “What’s Left Of Me” is a strikingly honest retelling of life on the road, wrapped in what can only be described as a powerful pop anthem. The song brings us a feelgood melody, carrying highly emotional lyrics. About the collaboration with Gelbuda, Francis says,

“Chris and I are good friends and we got to talking about the challenges of being in a committed relationship while you’re on tour. A lot of these songs were influenced by Electric Light Orchestra and the way Jeff Lynne synthesizes classical music and pop songwriting, and ‘What’s Left Of Me’ was definitely one where I was going for an ELO vibe.”

Alongside “What’s Left Of Me,” Francis released a wonderful retro style music video jumping between the ruins of what seems to be an old chapel and a stage where he and his band are performing the song.
