MISSIO is on the rise since releasing their latest album, I Am Cinco, last May. We joined up with them on their Sacramento date of their current tour yesterday to witness the release in person, and well… it was in short, quite a treat.
Following their most recent tour with Badflower, the Texas duo is currently on their I Am Cinco North America headline tour. Special guest, Layto, will also be joining them throughout the remainder of the tour.
“It’s been a while since we’ve headlined North America. We can’t wait to get back to the fans who make all of this a reality for us by how much they support and stream the music,” states the band.
The bass shook the walls of Goldfield Trading Post as MISSIO hopped on the stage. And as the instrumentals thrummed in our ears, we felt the cleansing energy that their music had to offer from the start. The intimacy the event had to offer creates a space that feels more personal and more real than any arena venue can provide. There’s something more to the physical close proximity that helps you connect to the music all the more.
MISSIO’s performance reminded me of that. In a room of dedicated fans, Everyone was there to witness and to feel a sense of catharsis that their music, and especially the new music, provides. There’s something in I Am Cinco that’s for everyone, as it captures all of the human experience.

Fans reacted strongly to “Bottom Of The Deep Blue Sea,” as an original fan’s favorite. It was the perfect breath in the middle of the set. Other crowd pleasers included “Sing To Me,” where Matthew shared a little of his story and the meaning of the track.
“When we’re writing music we’re pulling from the ether…” he said quietly. Matthew continued about how music as a whole can be found and felt much like the air we breathe or the sun on our skin, “but not in a religious way, if that makes sense.” He continued by saying, “You feel it and know it’s there, you know?” He finished his thought with thanking the audience for being there, because without them, without all of their stories and journeys and community, the songs wouldn’t have near as much meaning. It was a beautiful sentiment, and showed just how special MISSIO is not only as a band, but as more than that… a whole community.
