Alt-pop dua THE DRIVER ERA, consistering of brothers Ross and Rocky Lynch, had a productive 2024. Their tracks “Get Off My Phone,” “You Keep Me UP At Night,” and “Don’t Walk Away” showcase the bands ability to craft light, sticky pop-tracks that leave you wanting more. “Don’t Walk Away” in particular has a bouncy feeling that perfectly summarizes their lighthearted approach to song making. However, their final release of the year titled “Touch” delightfully diverts from this sound.

“Touch” is a moody encapsulation of lust, allowing the suspenseful musical landscape to provide a perfect backdrop for Ross’ playful vocals. It provides a necessary diversification of sound from THE DRIVER ERA, showing that they can take their stripped down approach to verse construction to a darker place sonically.

The far and away highpoint of the track is the bridge. This is when the minimalist, bass centric production begins to expand. Sharp rhythm guitars cut through the heavily reverbed landscape of the song. The drums begin to take up more space in the track as well, straying away from the simplistic bass hits and steady high hats to crashing symbols and energetic snare hits.

The collective buildup that these new instrumental elements make the track feel more complete, but it also expresses a versatility to their recent catalog that is vital to fully understanding their ability as songwriters. This climactic ending is punctuated by an ambient repetition of the hook “there’s no time to waste,” sucking you back into their more personal sound they used to construct this track.

Their new album Obsession will release on April 11 and it is available for preorder now. Additionally, the group will be taking the album on tour later this year, for which tickets are available here. While you get ready for their new music and must see performances, stream “Touch” by THE DRIVER ERA wherever you get your music!
