Billie Eilish Goes Sustainable For Her Tour

Billie Eilish has big plans to turn her HIT ME HARD AND SOFT tour into a pioneer event for sustainable concerts.

Billie Eilish isn’t new to partnering with environmental non-profit organizations such as REVERB. She and her team, in cooperation with REVERB have had a massive impact when it comes to protecting the environment in the past on her previous “HAPPIER THAN EVER WORLD TOUR” in 2022. Prior to kicking off what is “HIT ME HARD AND SOFT: The Tour” in North America, Billie Eilish came forward with a detailed plan to decrease its carbon footprint as well. However, she needs the help of her fans. Since more than 70% of a concert’s carbon emissions come from the guests attending the shows, Billie and her team worked hard to hand us options to make a change. In an effort to determine ways to empower everyone with options to contribute to a more sustainable tour, they partnered with Live Nation, REVERB, Support+Feed, and Google Maps, bringing us effective solutions.

The biggest challenges for guests wanting to reduce their carbon footprints lie in transportation and hospitality. Hence, the collaboration with Google Maps is beneficial to the cause as it aids in finding the most sustainable transportation options. For those able to use options other than a car, it provides the best routes on foot, by bike or using public transport. People who are reliant on a car however, can find the most fuel-efficient routes on Google Maps as well. Furthermore, when it comes to hospitality, it provides options to get plant-based food before and after shows in Atlanta, Baltimore, Chicago, Detroit, Los Angeles, Minneapolis, Nashville, New York, Philadelphia and Washington, D.C. Moreover, Billie and her team have worked with each venue to provide plant-based options at the shows as well. Thanks to Support + Feed, attendees can help raise awareness and gather food to distribute to local communities at plant-based Food Drives across select cities.

Another way for guests to contribute to sustainability is making sure waste reduction is a priority. One effective way of doing so is to bring (32 oz or less, unbreakable) water bottles to refill for free at one of the many water stations at the venues. Reusable custom-artwork Nalgene RockNRefill Bottles are available for purchase at each show as well. All proceeds from bottle donations will contribute to supporting social and environmental organizations and causes.

Eco-action-villages sponsored by REVERB, that will be present at every stop on the tour globally, encourage fans to join in efforts to take urgent environmental and climate action. In addition, Overheated aims to unite climate activists, musicians, designers and other leading voices in selected cities to find solutions to tackle the climate crisis.

A special addition to the tour are the so-called changemaker tickets. Billie designated tickets at every show on her tour for the Changemaker program. Proceeds of which will go to a Climate Impact Fund, managed by REVERB, to support organizations, projects and voices advocating climate justice.

Furthermore, Billie and their team themselves contribute a variety of efforts to reduce the carbon footprint as much as possible. The touring team makes sure to make efficient and minimal use of buses and trucks. As for the merch stands, all merchandise is made from 100% recycled cotton, organic cotton or recycled polyester. Posters consist of 100% recycled paper and vinyls are made of recyclable or recycled compounds. Lastly, their packages and sleeves contain raw plant-based and water-based dispersion varnish as well as 100% recycled and re-usable materials. Any use of single-use plastic packaging, be it bottles, bags or straws is being avoided and recycling for such materials is optimized for the backstage and fans.

Following the proven success of her efforts to reduce the carbon footprint of her previous tour “HAPPIER THAN EVER,” Billie Eilish is once again spearheading what the future of sustainable music events could look like and you can be a part of it. Check for tickets and tour dates here.
