Explore a new world of music this weekend with New Music Friday, ready to amuse the tastebuds of any musical palette.

1. Lady Gaga: “Happy Mistake”

Lady Gaga released her new album titled Harlequin, featuring the track “Happy Mistakes.” This powerhouse vocalist and performer of the past two decades continues to stun listeners with her range. Fans have heard ballads galore from Gaga, but this song shows an ultra-vulnerable side, with a delicate falsetto and minimalist instrumentals. The lyrics describe making light of darkness; something that fame forces one to do.

2. Yaelokre: “Bird cage blue and yellow”

Incorporating the whimsicality of fables and fairytales into music is Yaelokre, coming back with “Bird cage blue and yellow.” The track offers an immersive experience; press play, and escape into a quirky fantasy world of bells, keys, and mousy, accented vocals. The orchestral elements lend to a medieval vibe, as does the cover art. For those who enjoy folk music and art pop, this track is sure to scratch that brain itch.

3. WILLOW, Kamasi Washington: “wanted”

The seemingly boundless WILLOW returns with “wanted” featuring tenured saxophonist Kamasi Washington. The track immediately dives into a jazz-hybrid time signature, providing a satisfying unpredictability. As an artist who constantly reinvents her style, each release is a refreshing surprise. Washington’s expertise on the sax is evident, as he weaves in and out of the main melody with finesse.

4. Kimbra, Taylor Graves: “Stay Strong”

Let it be known: Kimbra makes excellent R&B! And she is back with the track “Stay Strong” from her recent album, Idols & Vices (Vol. 1), featuring folk/soul artist Taylor Graves. Over a sophisticated piano and deep bassline, they layer their voices as a duet and in airy harmonies, creating a lounge-y, easy-going energy. The lyrics are an affirmation to stay strong when tempted to return to someone from the past.

5. Gvllow, MOTHICA: “Eyes Without a Face”

For the American Psycho Comic Series Soundtrack, Gvllow and MOTHICA team up for a cover of Billy Idol’s “Eyes Without a Face.” Gvllow evokes ’80s-style vocals with his distinctive deep resonance, while MOTHICA adds a mystical touch, singing the original French lyrics with her enchanting melodies. The track has a particularly haunting quality, fitting for the series soundtrack.
