Here are our daily picks for you featuring Medium Build, Lil Baby, Seba and more!
1. “Yoke (with Julien Baker)” – Medium Build, Julien Baker
Interlaced with childhood nostalgia, “Yoke” by indie country artist Medium Build offers listeners a sentimental glimpse into the past. Sparse acoustic lines emphasize the raw vocals, creating a somewhat heart-wrenching sense of longing amidst internal conflict. The new single welcomes Julien Baker, a musician and longtime friend who weaves her own unique harmonies throughout. Adding onto the sentimentality, the official music video features grainy footage of Medium Build’s hometown in Marietta, Georgia. “Yoke” can be found on Medium Build’s latest EP, Marietta, a 5-track collection of songs that further illuminate the 33-year-old artist’s feelings about family, home and everything in between.
2. “Witness” – Chemical Well
UK-based metal band Chemical Well brings undeniable heat and intensity with the release of “Witness,” the opener for their newest 10-track album, Obeyer. Filled to the brim with riveting metallic grooves, penetrating screams and unrelenting drums, the new track is a culmination of each band member’s individual musicality. The members themselves have been friends for over 20 years, united by their shared love for metal. “Witness was the turning point for us,” says guitarist Jamie Steadman. “We were able to get every element we wanted to in one track.” Listen to “Witness” and check out the rest of Obeyer today!
3. “The Road” – some fear
Up next is “The Road” by Oklahoma City band some fear, a slower, yet highly introspective track that highlights the reality of being deceived by someone you should have known would act that way. Fuzzy instrumentation and lamenting vocals contribute to the song’s heavy nature. “It’s about someone in my past doing something so irredeemable, even though the patterns were there and I should’ve seen it coming, and feeling betrayed by them,” says frontman Branden Palesano. “The Road” is the third single released from their debut self-titled album, some fear, set to be released January 16, 2025.
4. “5AM” – Lil Baby
Back with another fluid rap sensation is “5AM” by GRAMMY-Award winning hip hop artist Lil Baby. Capping at just one minute and 42 seconds, the new single highlights personal conflict amidst superstardom. “How you managed to get everything you want and still ain’t happy? / Half of me done died, the other half alive, I’m tryna balance it,” Lil Baby spits, his spoken-word laid atop an infectious trap mix. Looking ahead, the Atlanta-born diamond-certified rapper is preparing to unleash his upcoming album, WHAM, in early January 2025.
5. “Oni” – Seba
Closing out today’s selection is “Oni” by Swedish drum and bass producer and DJ Seba. Crisp drum patterns, syncopated rhythms, layered hi-hats and resonant basslines form the foundation of the song’s contagious instrumentation. Experimental elements like light reverb and ambient pads are also peppered throughout. “Oni” can be found on the eponymous album, Oni, a 10-track collection of more immersive drum and bass hits that are sure to keep the dance floor pumping.
