From a must-stop shopping spot to a killer music venue, The Pour House has it all. Located in North Carolina’s capital Raleigh, The Pour House Music Hall & Record Shop is a necessity for everyone in the area. For people spending a casual day downtown or for those looking for a fun-filled night out, this fan-favorite spot is adaptable to most everyone’s needs.
Located at 224 S Blount St, The Pour House is conveniently situated right around Moore Square. Enter through an art-filled alley and walk up the stairs to enter the two-level storefront and walk into a world of wonder. Its edgy aesthetic and cool vibes make it hard not to smile and stay a while, taking in the plastered posters and gorgeous murals adorning the walls. The only thing that beats the decor exuding good energy is the abundant stock. Sift through the bins for every genre your heart desires, whether that’s jazz, hip hop, or soundtracks — you name it, and The Pour House probably has it. There’s even a local section featuring some North Carolina bands to support the local music community. One of my favorite sections was the bin full of $10 mystery bags that had 10 records labeled by genre categories.
Head to the side wall to see a solid selection of 7 inch vinyls. The 45s are priced at a bargain of 50 cents each, an incredibly fair price for those who want to stock up or discover their next favorite record. Of course, there’s also the classic Bottom Bins for more steals.
The Pour House boasts that it’s the only record shop in the area with a full bar inside, selling specialty cocktails and local beer for customers to sip while they browse. The attention to detail is immaculate, as there are even pull-down drink holders to rest your cup if you need two hands to flip through vinyl selections.
If you make your way down in the evening, The Pour House will not disappoint. The venue attracts local performers and nationally touring artists alike, with a new show almost every night. Some upcoming performances include country band Barn Dance and reggae rock band Signal Fire. Plus, don’t miss out on July 29’s “NC GOT NEXT” (Battle of the Area Codes), presented by Ty 4 Thought.
