“Everything Eventually Ends,” But For L’Impératrice & Rejjie Snow, This Isn’t Much Of A Problem

On October 6th, French band L’Impératrice released their latest single with Ireland’s Rejjie Snow. Though the sentiment of the title might seem depressing, the track’s instrumental represents hopefulness amidst the bittersweetness of endings. Beneath Rejjie Snow’s proclamation that “E equals ‘everything eventually ends’/Everyone’s dead,” the French sextet lays down funky bass, ethereal keys, and that ever-present funk guitar sound.

Somehow, this isn’t even the most notable part of the track. While Snow lays down slick vocals in a casual flow and L’Imperatrice throws in the funkiest nu-disco instrumental this side of the century so far, the sound is impeccable. Everything melds perfectly into a cohesive piece of art. And who was behind the board to mix all of that, you may ask?

When an unstoppable force meets an immovable object, this track is what results. There is nothing but greatness oozing out of every facet of this track. The sound is impeccable. The instrumental is danceable, cosmic, and ephemeral, and the lyrics paint a vivid portrait of bittersweetness.
