The Stripped-Down Version of Halsey’s “So Good” Emphasizes The Raw Emotions Of The Song

Halsey has had an exciting couple of years, with the release of their newest album, If I Can’t Have Love I Want Power, at the end of last summer, which debuted at No. 1 on Billboard’s Top Current Album Sales and Top Alternative Albums charts in 2021. At the beginning of 2021, Halsey also launched their vegan, clean and cruelty-free make-up line, about-face. This year, Halsey has been on the road with their Love and Power Tour, which wraps up at the end of September. Now, Halsey has dropped their newest single, “So Good.”

The original song came out at the beginning of June, followed by the music video drop the next day. At the beginning of July, Halsey released a stripped-down version of “So Good,” which features a piano instrumental and the power and emotion of their voice.

Listen to the stripped version of “So Good” below!

“So Good” chronicles the beginning of the love story between Halsey and their partner, Alev Aydin. It paints a picture of what could have been a case of unrequited love but ended up becoming something more. This change is reflected in the lyrics, where the chorus at the beginning of the song states, “When you left, I bet you held her body closer/ And I was hopin’ you would tell her it was over/ You’re all I think about and everywhere I look/ I know it’s bad, but we could be so good.” Then, towards the end of the song, Halsey sings about how they didn’t realize how he felt, “When you left, I thought you held her body closer/ I never knew that you would tell her it was over/ ‘Cause I’m all you think about and everywhere you look.” The stripped version of “So Good” brings out the rawness of Halsey’s longing for this love. There are some harmonies and a soft drum beat to build upon the piano, but the focus of the song remains on Halsey’s voice and the song’s message.

Halsey is currently on their Love and Power Tour which ends September 24th in Las Vegas, NV. For more information on their tour, visit the official tour website.
