EXCLUSIVE PREMIERE – Slow Pass Pays Homage To Time On “Stay Fading”

Today, Nashville-based “indie pop-rock duo” Slow Pass released the first single from their upcoming EP, LOW-PASS! “Stay Fading” is an exploration into the warping of memory “after an abrupt breakup.” Utilizing plenty of lo-fi elements and “‘tape loops that slowly degrade in the background, just like memories do,’” guitarist/vocalist Ben Sparaco and bassist/vocalist Adam Discipio (who takes lead on “Stay Fading”) create a powerful homage to the passage of time.

According to Sparaco, “‘Stay Fading’ is our first fully self-produced release … we spent over 8 months recording, rearranging the song a few times, and honing in the mix until it was just right.” This perfectionist mentality is admirable, and it pays dividends on the finished product. “Stay Fading” sounds incredible. Everything is in its right place, and nothing feels overpowering. The final mix of the song is impeccable. Discipio’s lead vocals never feel buried among the intricate instrumentation, and the harmonies and vocal layering provided by Sparaco all create that warped sense of time that the duo was aiming for.

The music video has also been released today, and it looks outstanding. While the content is simply showing the band recording different parts of the song, from the acoustic demo to the finished product, the quality of the visual is fantastic. The focus never strays from the duo except for a few shots of a burning letter (which turns out to be a sheet of credits, revealed at the end to give props to all those who worked on the song), although there is a little teaser of Squidward Tentacles’ Bold and Brash about a minute in.

On the whole, “Stay Fading” is a fantastic foray into the haziness and deterioration of memory. Check it out below, and be sure to put Slow Pass on your “Ones To Watch” list! There’s a lot of good coming from them.

Obsessed with all things music. Finished that MFA, so now I’m apparently a master of this. Bouncing around state borders, going wherever. If you see me at a show, say hey!
