Nashville local, now turned Los Angeles-based musician, Stevie Howie, shares his latest single, “shakes.” He has been playing piano since age 5 and writing music since he was 6. Originally, Stevie was a student of classical music, and as he has shaped his sound, we see a far different approach. His growing passion for rock, R&B, blues, and pop, all combine in this new track that seems to defy all rules of genre as we know it.
In the start of his official music career during fall 2021, Stevie posted a poll on his Instagram story asking his followers if they liked the band Nirvana. Upon overwhelming agreement, he decided to cover “Smells Like Teen Spirit.” Stevie recorded and posted a video of his cover to his 25 followers on TikTok, gaining over 1 million views and 25,000 followers. After many requests, he finished the song, releasing a full-length version to streaming platforms last month. Coincidentally, this was the first time that Stevie had decided to fully lean into his intuition as an artist. Channeling the newfound inspirations, it sparked the release of his debut single, “shakes.”
Written and recorded by himself, Stevie launches his single today, December 3rd. Hook-ridden with a beautiful array of texture and unique sound, “shakes” is only the beginning of something even greater to come. Its emotionally evocative story pulls you in during the process of feeling strung out and alone in a darkened world, vying for a grasp of attention with a cold cut gaze and desperation.
