At the young age of 12 years old, Clay Newsom was already gaining attention as a piano prodigy. Starting out as a blues pianist, Clay gigged all around Louisiana with his Dad (Jeff Newsom) on lead guitar & vocals, Mom (Sherry Foster) on rhythm guitar & vocals, and Paul Golmon on drums. Scoring gigs at restaurants, bars, lounges, casinos, etc., Clay amazed people with his Jerry Lee Lewis and Ray Charles style piano playing, while blowing them away with his soulful singing. He has since joined the US Military but continues to live out his passion and pursue music. Over the years, he has changed his musical direction to just wanting to “create music that feels good.”

Clay has a slew of releases scheduled for 2021, and “Deja Vu” is his latest single to hit the airwaves. Written, produced, and recorded independently, the track is about a misunderstood and toxic relationship. Recalling his piano upbringings, Clay leads listeners into the song with a sweet piano line before introducing his captivating vocals. The piano becomes more subtle as measured beats take over the production, giving it a modern-day R&B feel. The track explores the relationship, which is a repeated cycle of a guy who doesn’t know how to escape this girl as she comes and goes whenever she pleases. An entrancing hook prominently supports the main message and there is also a vibrant electric guitar solo that breaks up the words, as well as the cycle that is explored in the song. “Deja Vu” is a lovely slow vibe track to break up your workweek as well.
