THE FUNERAL PORTRAIT comes in hot with a single that is primed to paint a darkly good picture through song. Read on to find out more!

THE FUNERAL PORTRAIT’s rise began in August 2022 with the release of “Voodoo Doll” when they were an opening band in 400 or fewer person venues. Now they’re drawing the biggest crowds at the major festivals, touring all year with bands like Ice Nine Kills, and gearing up for a European tour this fall.

With “Dark Thoughts” unleashed on the radio waves, there’s no containing this energy. The single is a sliver of The Funeral Portrait’s upcoming ‘GREETINGS FROM SUFFOCATE CITYalbum that’s shaping up to be an addictive hit. Described by frontman Lee Jennings as “a finger snapping anthemic banger,” the mental health-themed song is making headway throughout the rock community. Other vocalists are getting in on the song, such as Danny Worsnop of Asking Alexandria, who has put out a version featuring his voice.

This is what Jennings has to say about the single,

We wanted to put together something special and different that we haven’t done for the Coffin Crew. The other cool thing about this EP is that we are including the live version that we recorded at our first-ever town hall meeting in Atlanta. This marked our first sold-out show in our hometown.

On the song itself, Jennings explains that “‘Dark Thoughts” is a fun and energetic song meant to highlight mental health struggles. He wrote about being diagnosed with OCD and he’s glad that more people can relate.

This is what else Jennings had to say,

It’s deeply rooted in feeling trapped in your own head, like you have no one to reach out to who would understand or have an answer. It’s a statement both about the band and our fans. Depression, anxiety, and mental health crisis events are a ubiquitous experience for us, and the people who connect with our art. It can be such a terrifying and daunting task to try to overcome, but we hope that by connecting with others, we can support each other as a community in times when things seem the most bleak.

~Lee Jennings

Mental health struggles are something that affects many people in this day and age. Sometimes knowing someone else is struggling with it, but surviving, is enough to get people through the day. Give the track a listen today and stay tuned for more music news!
