Audiences received a new version of Nathan Day’s “809” on October 29th in the form of “809 (Stripped).” The original single came from EP We Come In Pieces, along with other acclaimed tracks such as “Ghost Town,” “Fade Like You,” She Came Down From The Stars,” and “Friends.”

Before he debuted as a solo artist, Blackpool-based Day was the founder of British rock band Darlia, in which their many EP’s and fan-favorited full album led them to perform alongside The 1975, Gerard Way, The Wombats, and other known artists in multiple countries. However, his desires and dreams in music led him to later split from the group and continue his journey on his own path. Overall, his relationship with music is as follows,

… you get goosebumps when you hear something you love. This is why I don’t listen to music. Because I love it so much I don’t want to get used to it. I don’t know if this logic checks out, because I fucking love pizza. And I have it all the time, and I still love it. But I don’t want to even take the risk.

~ Nathan Day

Contrasts and comparisons can be made to the stripped version and the original. At first listen, “806 (Stripped)” feels slower and much more relaxing. Day sings the words in a lower tone of voice, and the guitar handles the melody in a more delicate manner. Although the change in sound is present, the lyrics still hold the same impact. Both tracks relay the message of waiting eternally for sorrows to pass you by, and people regarding it as a phase that will come to an end eventually. “806” in both of its forms are beautifully composed to hold such meaningful statements, and alone are distinct and expertly crafted singles.
