Lauren Spencer Smith is continuing to embrace emotional honesty with the release of the deluxe version of THE ART OF BEING A MESS, which is out now. In addition to expanding on her sophomore album, the new edition not only introduces six additional tracks but also further deepens the vulnerability that has come to define her sound.

At the core of the deluxe release lies “somebody you’re supposed to love,” a subtly poignant composition that delves into the nature of emotional pain that artists often struggle to articulate. The song reflects on the recognition that a parent failed to fulfill their expected role, encapsulating a profoundly personal experience with remarkable clarity.

The Evolution of The Art of Being a Mess

Originally released through Island Records and Republic Records, THE ART OF BEING A MESS garnered widespread acclaim for its candid and emotionally nuanced songwriting. Notable tracks such as “Looking Up,” “bridesmaid,” and “IF KARMA DOESN’T GET YOU (I WILL)” effectively illustrate Spencer Smith’s capacity to navigate themes of anger, heartbreak, and healing, while also avoiding oversimplification of any aspect. Furthermore, the latter track notably secured a position on Spotify’s U.S. Viral Chart, thereby enhancing her expanding influence.

With the deluxe edition, that emotional scope expands. New additions like “Natural Disaster” and “Thick Skin” continue to explore the contradictions that come with growth, reinforcing the album’s central message that emotions rarely exist in isolation. Each track contributes to a larger narrative that reflects the chaos of being human, where feelings often overlap and resist easy resolution.

The project follows her debut album Mirror (2023), which featured RIAA Platinum-certified singles “Flowers” and “Fingers Crossed.” Furthermore, since then, Spencer Smith has steadily built a global audience, translating personal experiences into songs that resonate across a wide emotional spectrum.

Taking the Album on the Road

Beyond the release, Spencer Smith is currently bringing the project to life on her 32-date North American headline tour. With stops in cities like New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, and Nashville, the tour marks another step in her rapid rise, following an extensive run across Europe, the U.K., Australia, and New Zealand.
