System of a Down just performed a show that is guaranteed to go down in heavy metal history. Before we dive into the iconic event, we want to emphasize: Do not try this at home and stay safe!
System of a Down’s recent show in São Paulo was a team effort between the band and attendees. While there were no pyrotechnics on stage, the crowd lit up the scene with fire spinners, flares and even fire breathers. As it was their first show in South America since 2015, fans were extra hyped and made the event an unforgettable one. The spectacle, involving 75,000 people was captured with drones and by fans in the crowd as the band performed alongside the flamy spectacle.

This is not a war zone, this is not a riot, this is a System Of A Down style Rock & Roll concert in Brazil!!!!!!!

This particular show is a testament to what a peaceful use of pyrotechnics and fire can look like at a concert. It even created a sense of unison. The orderly execution and respectful togetherness proves how music brings people together. Fans also noted how men, women, parents and children alike shared the same mosh pits. All peacefully celebrated the moment with one another.
Despite the massive amounts of flares, spinners and other pyrotechnics, the entire event seemed strangely organized. This outstanding “lightshow,” made for a legendary night. It was coupled with the fact that fans had to wait a whole decade for System of a Down to return to South America.
For North American and Canadian fans, System of a Down has a number of special upcoming stadium shows. New Jersey, Chicago and Toronto are scheduled for later this summer. Furthermore, we can look forward to Korn, Polyphia, Wisp, Avenged Sevenfold and Deftones as support during select shows.
Once more the wild nature of metal music brings people together and makes incredible things like this happen. The flaming spectacle that peacefully stood in for System of a Down’s missing on-stage pyrotechnics is one of these special moments in live-music history that will be remembered for years to come.
