If today’s scorching hot weather doesn’t make you sweat, Reneé Rapp’s new single, “Leave Me Alone,” definitely will. Bursting high-energy, grungy instrumentals and rebellious, free-spirited lyricism, this track bleeds elements of early 2010s pop. The new release dropped on May 21, 2025 and marks Rapp’s first release since 2023. It has since been announced as the lead single for her highly anticipated sophomore studio album, Bite Me, set to drop on August 1.
As Broadway’s former Regina George on Mean Girls, Rapp brings that same fierce attitude to this track. “Leave Me Alone” is an exhilarating reminder that listeners have control over their own lives. At the end of the day, they have the power to break that habit, change up their style and experience what they want. The first 10 seconds feature Rapp’s seductive, “I’m a real bad girl / But a real good kisser” hook, pulling fans into the chaos. Call-and-responses between Rapp’s clever lyrical finesse and her entourage of back-up vocalists set the stage for an unapologetic anthem. This ebb and flow of chaotic energy kicks off the beginning of Rapp’s next era.
Rapp first began teasing Bite Me earlier this May with a BITE.ME link to her storefront. Playing with lyricism, the page encouraged fans to “sign a hundred NDAs” in order to gain access to hints about the then soon-to-be-announced album. Other hints included Rapp sporting a “Bite Me” lip tattoo and a multitude of social media posts from Paris Hilton, Monica Lewinsky, Gabby Windey and more.
Rapp is Rising
Rapp’s announcement for a second album comes with high hopes from her debut album, Snow Angel, released back in 2023. The project was so successful that, within the first week of being released, it garnered the largest sales for a U.S. female artist’s first album. Since then, she collaborated with GRAMMY Award-winning artist Megan Thee Stallion for “Not My Fault.” It was featured on the original soundtrack to Paramount’s Mean Girls (2024) and gave Rapp her highest ever day one streams on Spotify. Since her debut EP, Everything to Everyone (2022), the North Carolina native has accumulated over 1.4 billion streams across her entire discography.
So, while Rapp may be begging her audience to “leave me alone,” this single can’t be ignored. Give it a listen today on all streaming platforms and stay tuned for August’s Bite Me release! Reneé Rapp summer is officially upon us!
