Remission to Resurgence: Michael Bibi’s Inspirational Return at Coachella

Roughly a year ago Michael Bibi received the diagnosis of CNS Lymphoma. This immediately diverted him from his usual path of touring the world as a performing artist, to a being confined to a hospital bed. Enduring a challenging journey, including five rounds of intense chemotherapy, Bibi recently reached a point of gratitude as he achieved remission.

The music community rallied around Bibi, as support and encouragement came from colleagues all around the globe. Tiesto, Carlita, Vintage Culture, and Diplo, are a few names who regularly shared words of encouragement as he updated us all with the latest on his treatment. On December 5, he joyfully announced his cancer-free status while ringing the bell at The Royal Marsden in London.

This was met with an outcry of joy from fans and friends across the world. After giving praise for Bibi’s return to health many of us had one thought on our mind. When and where is his next performance? Our questions were answered when Bibi was announced as one of the artists to be performing on the Quasar Stage at Coachella. The new stage, organized by Goldenvoice, provided a platform for extended DJ performances during the both weekends of the festival. On weekend two (April 19th-21st), the Quasar stage will host RÜFÜS DU SOL, Eric Prydz b2b Anyma, and Diplo b2b Mau P.

One year ago I had a tumour found in the centre of my brain, today I’m finally preparing to go back to doing what I love & have missed so much… I don’t think I could have done any of this without all of your support & energy, I thank you all from the bottom of my heart & now I’m ready to give some of that back through playing music…. it doesn’t quite feel real but I think it’s actually happening! @coachella

Bibi took the stage with a beautifully melodic intro and once that was over, it was as if he never left. His set included some of his most popular tracks “Got The Fire” and “Hanging Tree” along with many IDs that we cannot wait to get our hands on. Throughout the set there were numerous heartfelt moments with fans, friends, and family. One of these moments including a touching embrace with his mom. This was a performance that was truly energized by emotion and passion.

This will become one that is etched in dance music history.

Now that he has wrapped his Coachella performance, Bibi is set to embark on his “One Life” World Tour. The tour serves as a “celebration of life, music, and the human spirit”. One of the first show announcements includes a massive 45,000 capacity homecoming show at Finsbury Park in London on Saturday, July 6th. This makes for the biggest electronic show ever to take place in the capital.
