“Real Life” and How it Has Gotten Harder to Manage

“Real Life” is the second single and title track from Vorsen’s upcoming 2022 EP. The song is a melancholic piece with ambient/ethereal textures, while also being prominent with an array of driving drums.

Vorsen is the name for London-based, British/Australian producer Oliver Halvorsen. Having relocated at a young age to Western Australia from London, Halvorsen spent most of his youth playing with teenage bands and dabbling on guitar, making various recordings in his bedroom. Having composed and recorded hundreds of songs at his parent’s house, he was invited to study at the Western Academy of Performing Arts, and now, is known for weaving lush atmospheric textures with percussive elements of his immediate surroundings.

“Real Life” stands out all due to Voresen’s inventive touch, specifically his intimate vocals, and how they deliver the melancholic melodies of the song in a way that is both gut wrenching and uplifting. Multiple different emotions could be interpreted from the instrumentals alone, as its echoey nature combined with an upbeat rhythm has the ability to tell of an abundance of different stories. One story that is certainly being told, specifically by the lyrics, is the increasing difficulty of obtaining true comfort in today’s world. There is always something to worry about, whether it be in your immediate surroundings or in national news, there never seems to be a break in how humanity today is constantly bombarded with a multitude of hardships. A lot of us don’t even realize this, in fact, as it has become so accustom to believe that dealing with so much at once is completely normal.

It’s never easy to bring up a topic as heavy as this one, and Vorsen has done so much and more in presenting these truths in a light that is both incredibly creative and extensively thought provoking. Overall, it’s a no-brainer to say that this track deserves a spot on one of your playlists.

Vorsen is also found on Instagram and TikTok.
