Porch Light Returns to Northern California for Electric Set

People lined up down J Street for Sacramento’s Harlow’s Nightclub before doors first opened. The band playing that night? Rising Minneapolis-based band Porch Light. The five piece band recently kicked off a nearly sold-out tour but also celebrating freshly released debut album, Hush.

We had a chance to catch up with them before their set over at Harlow’s’ back porch. Details for that are coming soon (stay tuned on the website for more); but we’re here to yap about their performance for that first. Keep reading if that’s what you’re into.

“It’s our first time in Sacramento,” said lead vocalist Jackie Uhas. “People were sh*****g on it, but honestly, it’s the coolest city we’ve been to in California so far.”

If you’re new to hearing about the band Porch Light, maybe you actually aren’t? You’ve probably heard one of their viral hits, such as “Upside,” “Oxygen,” or “Paranoia” over on social media. That’s how I’d heard of them initially. From there, I read into their story, and listened more to the music, and it kinda stuck.

The biggest thing about Porch Light is that their music is made to be played on the stage. You might be thinking, well, duh… but you’d be missing the point. The band met on the road before they were an official band, and they continued to feel things out on the road until developing the band we know and love today.

And the reason I bring this up here and now is because their music is no exception to capturing a feeling that you can only catch while watching them onstage. Onstage, well… they’re electric, to put it into simple words. Their sound makes anyone who listens feel like they can lean in and dance the night away without a care in the world; and as a result, maybe feel like they, too, are a bit of a part of that performance as well. The intimacy of the venue was no exception to that. A low-sitting, round nightclub stage and no barricade to separate everyone helped everything feel all the more closely knit and magical.
