It’s Friday night; the perfect time to play New Music Friday Dance!

1. John Summit, Sub Focus: “Go Back (ft. Julia Church) [Kyle Watson Remix]”

John Summit and Sub Focus bring a minimalistic revamp of their hit “Go Back (ft. Julia Church)” courtesy of Kyle Watson. This remix strips down some of the more dramatic, big room-EDM elements of the original and places direct focus on the vocals. The builds and drops lean more techno with a composed shift in energy, differing from the dynamic, high-powered drum & bass of the original. The track became cloaked with a veil of sophistication.

2. ANOTR: “Currency (Count On Me) (ft. Cimafunk & PAMÉ)”

Innovative house artists ANOTR release an organic funky single, “Currency” featuring Cimafunk and PAMÉ. Built around a subtle play on words – “you can count on me” – this track is lively and nostalgic in both theme and sound. The infusion of Spanish lyrics adds a multicultural flair, showing a free-spirited approach to house music. The instrumentals have a dreamy twang to them; a staple requirement of good disco.

3. Max Styler: “Inferno”

California DJ Max Styler turns up the heat with his latest track, “Inferno.” This one is for the techno heads: a sprinkle of lyrics with a stylish variety of 16th-beat percussion lines that weave around each other from every direction. One highlight of the production is some distant ringtone-like keys that lighten the otherwise crunchy and punchy instrumental. Something about the track overall suspends the listener – it’s like a warm-up to the party.

4. FREAK ON: “Feel The Beat”

Self-titled “House music freak” FREAK ON makes a groovy return with “Feel The Beat.” This house mixture captures the evocative nature of dance music by incorporating an old-style hip-hop vocal sample and percussion. The fast-paced beat along with the exclamation “DJ, let’s move those feet!” stirs up a happy, easygoing shuffle step. The disk scratches and choppy distortions complete this ‘modern throwback’.

5. Merlin: “Free Your Soul”

Merlin‘s latest release “Free Your Soul” is the epitome of elation. This colorful house track evokes young and free feelings with global rhythmic patterns and inspirational lyrics: “Dance until we feel alive / oh hey oh, free your soul.” Merlin makes liberal use of the soundscape, filling it from top to bottom with dynamic, complex loops and choruses of rich harmonies.
