Hypnotizing, exhilarating and undeniably powerful, nilsix‘s newest release, “Fired Up,” is sure to keep hearts pounding and energy pulsing. Capping at 13 minutes and 24 seconds, the four-track release will immerse any listener into nilsix’s technicolor world of electronic pop.

nilsix consists of Norwegian producer Orjan Nilsen and Dutch DJ Mark Sixma. With a combined musical journey of 40 years, the two have dedicated their talents to making waves in the electronic music scene. “Fired Up” weaves its own tapestry of big room influences, with songs such as “Overture,” “Fired Up,” “Gone” and “Burned.”

We had so much fun making music together and we really wanted to show how versatile we can be with this EP. From melodic techno, acid techno, big room to full-on trance. So, we thought with ‘Fired Up,’ we should try to combine all those styles into one track. We think we succeeded, in fact, we’re all . . . ‘Fired Up’ about it. We do, however, sincerely apologize for that horrible pun. Well, we hope you’ll enjoy this as much as we enjoyed making it.”

“Overture”

The opening of “Overture” presents listeners with the kind of high-energy anticipation found in cinema movie trailers. With building synths that grow in volume and intensity, the addition of a driving bassline halfway through the track keeps the power on at full blast. The combination of these electronic elements shine a dynamic light for the rest of the EP.

“Fired Up”

“Fired Up” is yet another hot addition to the dance floor, beginning strong with a defining kick drum pulse and quick tempo. Underlying vocal hooks float beneath the layers of percussive rhythms, creating swells that leave much to be desired. To end off the 3 minute and 17 second banger, the melodic techno synths end in a satisfying resolution.

“Gone”

“Gone” continues “Fired Up”‘s reign of low-end bass and distinct tech patterns. Fluctuating between open-ended, waiting-for-the-beat moments and full-on jump-in-the-club-nothing-else-matters energy, this third track will envelope listeners in and make them feel truly “gone.”

“Burned”

Closing out this EP with a bang, “Burned” starts off by giving listeners a taste of the heavy bass found throughout the project. Siren-like waves and melodic synths stand their ground before enthralling vocals enter the scene. There’s something unique in the sharp reverb that culminates in that same heavy bass that started the track.
