Nettwerk and Goodwerks recently dropped Broken Glass, a charitable compilation showcasing Nettwerk’s roster of artists reinterpreting seminal tracks from the 90s which were originally sung by influential women in music. Broken Glass is a direct reaction to the Supreme Court’s landmark decision last summer to overturn Roe v. Wade, a decision that challenged the fundamental principles of reproductive rights and bodily autonomy.
Broken Glass stands as a continuation of Nettwerk’s commitment to gender equality in music, echoing the spirit of Lilith Fair, the groundbreaking all-female music festival that reshaped conversations about gender equality in the industry. The compilation features diverse renditions of classic tracks, including Miya Folick’s take on Annie Lennox’s “Broken Glass,” Bathe Alone’s rendition of Sleater-Kinney’s “Slow Song,” and renforshort’s cover of Hole’s “Doll Parts,” among others.
To mark the release of Broken Glass, Nettwerk collaborated with School Night Los Angeles for a special event on Monday, March 11, at Bardot in Hollywood. The evening featured a lineup of electrifying performances from Miya Folick, Miki Ratsula, Lily Kershaw, and Asha Jefferies, with proceeds from ticket sales benefiting Keep Our Clinics via the abortion care network.
This compilation marks the debut release under the Goodwerks banner, Nettwerk’s new social impact project dedicated to leveraging the power of music to support causes close to the heart of their community. With 50% of all proceeds from streams and downloads being donated to Keep Our Clinics, Broken Glass puts its money where its mouth is.
The Keep Our Clinics initiative, spearheaded by the Abortion Care Network, strives to protect access to vital reproductive healthcare services and offer assistance to independent clinics throughout the country. Despite their indispensable role in delivering abortion care, these clinics frequently operate with limited visibility and resources compared to larger healthcare institutions. Through the Keep Our Clinics campaign, the Abortion Care Network extends direct financial support to independent clinics, enabling them to persevere in their essential work amidst political pressures and regulatory obstacles.
