We’re so excited to present our Nashville Spotlight artist for the month of February, in partnership with H.O.M.E!
The multi-instrumentalist, producer and songwriter Kenny Mullins, who is beloved for his genre transcending approach and instinctive ear for musicality is arguably one of the most impressive talents in the industry today. Be it pop, country, reggae, R&B, or soul, all he touches turns to sonic gold. Being so adept at seamlessly blending genres and feeling right at home in all of them, has made him a sought-after collaborator, working with giants of producers such as Justin Gray (Avril Lavigne, John Legend), Brian Malouf (Michael Jackson, Queen), Chris Gehringer (Rihanna, Lady Gaga) and many more.
We had the absolute joy of chatting with Kenny about his art and what inspires him. Keep reading for a closer look at his music journey and his latest projects.
Originally from St. Petersburg, FL, Kenny shared what he likes most about Nashville:
Being fairly new and having traveled all over the country, I’ve really grown to love the people here. The true southern hospitality. I’ve worked in places like L.A. and other big cities, but nothing compares to good, genuine people. Growing up on the beach, I definitely miss the ocean, but having so many outdoor spots, waterfalls, trails, and open spaces, has been amazing for me and my family.
Music has always been an integral part to Kenny’s life. Picking up the drums at the tender age of eight years old and joining bands and writing songs for them by the time he got to high school truly paved the way for what followed.
After graduating, I took the next big step and started my own band, Resinated. What began as a local project quickly grew into something much bigger. We traveled all over, performing in countless cities and sharing the stage with some incredible bands—from reggae legends like UB40 to the genre-blending powerhouse 311. It was a wild, unforgettable experience full of late-night drives, packed shows, and the kind of growth you can only get from life on the road.

As he grew as both a musician and a person, the center of Kenny’s universe shifted towards his family, fully committing to being a wonderful husband and a father. However, even through these “slower” times, music continued to be a loyal companion, with Kenny working as a home-based producer in Nashville. Following an incredibly tough battle, undergoing three spinal surgeries, he found his way back to making music for himself again.
For years, I had been producing and writing for other artists, as well as doing sync work, but now I’m rediscovering my voice and passion as an artist. That’s the short version of a much longer story—one full of stage lights, studio nights, and a whole lot of heart.
Along the way, legendary artists from all corners of music, such as Stevie Wonder, Daft Punk and Sublime, inspired Kenny to not settle for a single genre.
I know that’s all over the map genre-wise, but that’s kind of the point. Stevie taught me about soul, emotion, and the magic of timeless songwriting. Daft Punk showed me how creativity and technology can come together to create something completely new, how rhythm and texture can make you feel even before a lyric hits. And Sublime brought this raw, laid-back energy—music that felt free, emotional, and effortlessly cool.
He continues,
At the end of the day, I just love music in all its forms. Whether it’s soul, electronic, reggae, or country-inspired folk, I find pieces of inspiration in it all. Each sound teaches me something new about expression, and that blend of influences keeps my creativity alive.
Ultimately, Kenny’s music is a reflection of how life, growth and experience have shaped him. His early music was more light-hearted, but as life changed, so did his music.
One of the biggest turning points came after a series of spinal surgeries that nearly took away my ability to perform. Going through that kind of pain and recovery put a lot into perspective. It humbled me, forced me to pause, and reminded me how precious it is to be able to create and share music at all.
Through all of that, my mom and dad were unwavering in their support. They stood by me from the very beginning, when I was just a kid banging on drums in the living room, to the long hospital stays and recovery days when I questioned if I’d ever play again. Their love and belief in me gave me the strength to keep going, even when I didn’t have much left in the tank.
Becoming a husband and having kids completely shifted Kenny’s focus on writing songs about life, its tests, its beauty and the gratitude that comes along with it.
Every lyric, every melody, comes from that deeper place now. It’s not just about chasing success or another tour; it’s about truth, family, and being thankful for every day I get to wake up and create. My parents laid that foundation of love and encouragement, and my family continues to be the reason I pour my heart into everything I make.
Kenny’s song “Younger” reflects on his life and dreams, as well as the people and moments that made him the person he is today. It is a testament to how much he has grown while appreciating the younger version of himself that he once was.
“Younger” isn’t just about reminiscing, though. It’s about gratitude. It’s about waking up every day knowing that after everything—surgeries, challenges, fatherhood, and all the life that’s happened in between—I still get to make music with people I love. That feeling of persistence and purpose is what the song captures for me. It’s a story of holding on to passion while embracing how far I’ve come.
Going forward, Kenny has some exciting things planned.
I’m heading down to Florida, back to my hometown of St. Petersburg, and I couldn’t be more excited about it. I’ve got a few shows lined up and can’t wait to reconnect with some old friends and longtime fans who have supported me since the very beginning. There’s something really special about going back to where it all started—it feels like closing a full circle in the best way possible.
In addition, he hinted at a major festival he’ll be playing at. Without telling which one it is, he shares,
…let’s just say it’s massive.
Finally, Kenny had some precious words of encouragement to share with us.
If you love what you do, hold on to it tightly. Let every setback sharpen your vision instead of breaking your spirit. Keep creating, even when no one’s watching. Because one day, those moments of struggle will become the foundation of your story—the proof that you were built for this from the start.
Stay tuned for Kenny’s upcoming projects! This lots of exciting things lie ahead and we are eager to follow along.
