Jutes Ignites New Chapter with “Disassociate”

Jutes Releases new single, Disassociate

There’s something new stirring in the alt-rock community. Within it, a disruptor of it all, Jutes, has returned with the beginning of a new musical era. The new single, “Disassociate” uses his signature blend of raw lyricism with smoldering production to deliver the embodiment of emotional escape.

Jutes has construct his own world in his music, and it doubles as a cathartic release to fans who’ve connected to his works. His signature refuses to simply “dabble” in genres. Instead, he’s created his own: a hazy yet turbulent combo of metal, R&B, and future-facing hip-hop.

“Disassociate” is no exception to this. It follows his recent album release, Dilworth – which features his story as a person and how he overcame the struggles in his life to get to where he is today.

Throughout the new single, released last month, Jutes depicts the surreal feeling of losing yourself in a moment or in another person. Fittingly titled as “Disassociate,” there’s also the delicate balance of escape and feelings of numbness.

The song begins with an infectious drop and gritty electric guitar riff. Jutes’s vocals pour in with an infectious hook. It contrasts the instrumental melody and creates a tension that pushes and pulls throughout the song. In the chorus, when the name of the track drops, the listener is taken into the world Jutes has created. The instrumentals float and slow until the bridge, where the beat drops and Jutes adds in his signature sensual lyricism. Listeners are further invited in to disassociate while the music balances the tension with a deeper emotional undercurrent. He spends the rest of the track reflecting on the ways intimacy can become both refuge and escape when life feels overwhelming.

This is about the world crumbling around me and me needing a break from empathizing and taking on everyone’s pain by disassociating with someone else. Sometimes you have sex to feel something and sometimes you have it to feel nothing.
