Here are your daily picks for you featuring Alice Phoebe Lou, Moody Joody, Gojira and more!
1. “Better” – Alice Phoebe Lou
31-year-old indie pop artist Alice Phoebe Lou has released “Better,” an upbeat single that sheds light on the honeymoon-stage euphoria that follows a new romance, and the inevitable crash when the rose-colored glasses are finally taken off. Written on her childhood piano, the melodic vintage keys evoke a certain yearning for the old, “better,” memories. Subtle guitar lines, soft percussion and warm bass riffs add another layer of musicality, allowing Lou’s dreamy vocals to take flight. Lou has been performing in venues across North America alongside Clairo since late September. Looking ahead, she will open for Remi Wolf at the Red Rocks Amphitheatre. More information can be found here.
2. “El Camino High” – Moody Joody
Nashville-based indie alt-pop group Moody Joody have dropped “El Camino High,” a sultry new track from their debut EP, Dream Girl. The song’s lyricism illustrates the bittersweet nostalgia of a passionate summer fling filled with late night joyrides, specifically in a Chevy El Camino. Instrumentally, “El Camino High” brings layers of dreamy synth pads, crisp hi-hat hits, groovy basslines and reverb-soaked guitar lines. Passion-infused vocals contribute to the track’s intense soundscape. With hazy lighting and cigarette smoke, the accompanying music video further evokes feelings of sentimentality. On the new EP, lead vocalist Kayla Hall says, “We wanted to capture everything that we are and feel, which at times is sexy, ethereal, lighthearted, powerful and at times is dark, deep, depressed and raw; creating a safe space for ourselves to experience and embrace the highs and lows of womanhood through this project.”
3. “Lost In Translation” – Sol Invicto
Up next is “Lost In Translation,” an invigorating track by London-based heavy metal band Sol Invicto. The song brings heat to the main stage with its use of heavily distorted guitar riffs, dynamic drums and unclean, screaming vocals. Lyrics that delve into themes of personal conflict, of feeling “lost” in the world, further contribute to the song’s intensity. “Lost In Translation” can be found on Sol Invicto’s debut EP, Loosely Aware, a 3-track collection of songs that showcase the band’s ability to weave together elements of metal and rock. Looking ahead, the band is planning on recording a full-length metal album.
4. “Spare Me” – The Plot In You
Ohio-based American rock band The Plot In You have released “Spare Me,” a gritty, energetic track taken from their latest EP, Vol. 3. The song opens immediately with aggressive, raw vocals and riveting guitar lines that embody themes of internal conflict and exhaustion from the world’s hardships. A driving bassline provides a subtle foundation for the drums to emphasize their power. On the song’s meaning, vocalist Landon Tewers says, “‘Spare Me’ is a meditation on current society and how we internalize what’s happening around us. Feeling guilt about what can’t be controlled or altered.” Starting Valentine’s Day 2025, The Plot In You will embark on their North America spring headliner alongside Holding Absence, Boundaries and Acres. 5. “Mea Culpa (Ah! Ça ira!)” – Gojira
“Mea Culpa (Ah! Ça ira!)” by French metal band Gojira is a fire-infused single that was featured at the Opening Ceremony of the 2024 Paris Olympic Games. The official video showcases that live act, which was performed from the windows of Paris’ iconic Concierge and featured nearly 300 classical musicians and a wide array of pyrotechnics. It has since been GRAMMY-nominated for Best Metal Performance. Gojira is also the first metal band in history to perform at the Olympics. Filled with head-banging guitar riffs and melodic opera singing from Marina Viotti, the song incorporates elements of history and modernity, two elements that form the backbone of the Olympic Games.
