“Sleeping Alone” by Texas-based folk band Flatland Cavalry paints an honest portrait of what it is like to miss a lover who lives far away, either literally or metaphorically. “Tired of saying goodnight through the phone / And wakin’ up each morning in the dark,” sings lead singer Cleto Cordero. 2. “So Dope” – Friedberg
Up next is “So Dope,” a funky alt-pop single by all-female London-based band Friedberg. With undeniably infectious beats, bright guitar riffs and upbeat vocals, this track is sure to keep energy high during long drives. On the new song’s meaning, frontwoman Anna Friedberg explains, “It’s a look at the pressure to present a perfect self: draining, hollow, and ultimately a waste of time, the endless loop of social media showmanship. It makes me think—when all of that fades, what will actually remain? What is your legacy?” This fall, Friedberg played their first UK headline show at London’s 100 Club in celebration of their debut album drop, Hardcore Workout Queen. Missouri-born singer-songwriter honestav has come out with “Hard To Breathe,” a deeply vulnerable piece that delves into themes of abandonment and loss. Soft guitar strumming and subtle kick drums seek to emphasize honestav’s resonant vocals, which exemplify lyrics like “I’m still here how you left me / Ain’t been resting / It’s getting hard to breathe.” “Hard To Breathe” can be found on the 26-year-old’s debut EP, hara-kiri. The 12-track collection holds the hit track, “I’d Rather Overdose,” which has garnered 88 million streams globally and currently stands at #22 on Billboard’s Alternative Radio Chart. honestav has just wrapped up shows at Los Angeles’ The Peppermint Club and New York’s Mercury Club. 4. “9 Lives” – Jana Diab
Cairo-born London-based musician Jana Diab has released “9 Lives,” an introspective new track from the extended version of her debut EP, Season 1. Weaving soft acoustic guitar lines with dreamy vocals, Diab’s latest highlights the beauty of living life to the fullest. “Nine lives wasted on me / I treat life like it owes me something,” the 23-year-old sings. The official visualizer is composed of a computer desktop showcasing photos and videos of Diab living out her “9 lives” and embracing her true individuality.
5. “Penny Pincher (Remix)” – Dumar 1K, G Herbo, Luh Tyler, BLP KOSHER
Closing out today’s selection is “Penny Pincher (Remix)” by Florida-based hip-hop artist Dumar 1K. The new remix is a collaborative blend of contagious trap beats and fluid rap lines from artists G Herbo, Luh Tyler and BLP KOSHER. The accompanying official music video finds all four artists spitting lyrics together in a vibrant, lavish atmosphere. Dumar 1K’s rise to fame has grown considerably since the original release of “Penny Pincher” in April, which has since gained over 500,000 YouTube views.
