FLØRE Takes Us “Back To Bed”

Germany-based alt-pop sensation FLØRE brings us her newest single “Back To Bed” following two astonishing shows at the Southside- and Hurricane Festivals in June.

After dropping her debut album SCARYTALE earlier this year, as well as playing multiple live-shows throughout Germany, FLØRE embarked on the next chapter of her journey with the release of “I think I lost my mind” and now “Back To Bed.” In accordance with the general dark-pop aura of her art, this new era, visually, puts a heavy focus on the color purple, giving it a unique and mysterious vibe. FLØRE’s music inhabits a compelling junction between the dark and gloomy, but often with a hopeful outlook, making the themes and messages beloved among her fanbase.

Sonically, “Back To Bed” takes us in an entirely new direction from her previous songs, proving to us once again her multifaceted talent. In the song, FLØRE masterfully combines her gloomy and mysterious vibes with the upbeat and energetic sounds of the country genre. Don’t be fooled however. Underneath the carefree country melody, the lyrics deal with a rather poignant topic.

About the song FLØRE said,

“Back To Bed is about that push and pull of passion and the acceptance of imperfect love. It is inspired by the current dating and hook-up scene… that you don’t even get to know the other person anymore on a deeper level and it plays with that irony of like who is going out as the winner out of that situation…”

~ FLØRE

Throughout the song this narrative refers to the carnal nature of these relationships. The bittersweet aspect is the lack of a deeper emotional connection and the relationship running off of sexual satisfaction only.

“You’re my worst mistake in the best positions

It’s not your love my love that I keep missing

Hush don’t talk baby that’s forbidden

Your body’s good so good for bad decisions”

~ “Back To Bed”

The lyrics convey a sense of hopelessness when it comes to forming a deeper emotional bond, giving up on the attempt to talk things through. However, the bodily pleasures are too good to give up on the relationship just yet. Hence it portrays a feeling of acceptance of the fact that it only goes skin-deep. In spite of that, as described in the song, FLØRE knows full well that staying with this person is ultimately a bad decision. Yet she manages to keep the upper hand in this scenario, keeping her partner blissfully oblivious to the fact that she’s got him wrapped around her finger.

“You don’t know what I can do

I’ve got you jumping through the hoops

You can’t tell you’re not the one who’s using me”

~ “Back To Bed”

Alongside the single, FLØRE released a marvelous music video featuring her in a cowgirl outfit on horseback, with her equine co-star going by the name of Bon Jovi. These scenes are contrasted by her wearing a beautiful dress that wouldn’t be misplaced in a saloon, dancing in a house with a Western style feel to it. Once again FLØRE manages to immerse us both in her musical art and in her visuals as she lets both worlds collide in a final dance-off, telling both sides of the story.
