As the warmer months approach, the festival season is slowly coming into play. However, so are ticket prices. Over the last decade, festival ticket prices have increased at a rate greater than inflation.
General admission prices for major music festivals have soared by at least 55% since 2014. Finance Buzz crunched the numbers, and the results are eye-opening.

Comparing the first year of each festival to this year, the price hike is startling. Some festivals that started in the 1970s have seen some major price jumps from then until now. But it’s the relatively new festivals where fans really feel the pinch.
For instance, Electric Forest in Michigan has seen a staggering 97% rise in ticket prices since 2014. Shaky Knees in Georgia and Hulaween in Florida both tie with an 84% increase. These numbers are shocking, especially when compared to the actual inflation rate of 32%. Clearly, festival organizers are raising prices at a much higher rate than the economy’s overall inflation.
Yet, there is an exception to these rising prices.
Ultra Miami has not raised its ticket prices once in the last 10 years. Fans celebrate this as a rare win, as prices continue to rise everywhere else. Ultra’s stability in pricing is a refreshing break from the norm, providing a more accessible option for festival-goers on a budget.
Despite these steep increases, the demand for festival tickets remains strong. Festivals offer unique experiences, from the music and performances to the sense of community. This demand allows organizers to continue raising prices to keep the show on the road.
But, don’t let that stop you from having fun. By planning ahead, and taking advantage of rewards and discounts, you can experience the magic of festivals without breaking the bank. Some festivals offer discounted tickets in exchange for volunteer work. Carpooling or sharing accommodations with friends can also help cut down on expenses.
