Decisions and decision making in general plays a huge part in our lives. Regardless of time, location or situation, life will always present us with choices as if a professor dishing out multiple choice questions. Crazy no? In a way yes, but if we take a closer look it’s just a realization of the fact that free will exists. Sure there are laws, manners and doctrines to abide to, in the end we are still the captain of our ship. Beware though, most importantly be ready to face the consequences of your actions. Similar to the beloved literary phenomenon conceptualized by Edward Packard, every choice made or ignored is a crucial part of our very own “Choose Your Own Adventure”.

Like lightning that strikes, all these thoughts are resoundingly brought to life in non-binary multimedia artist M. Camille aka Bad Rat?’s latest song entitled ‘The Forest Of Forking Paths’. Released November 10th in all major streaming platforms worldwide from their upcoming ‘Concept!Laptop Rock Opera!’. Bad Rat?’s ‘The Forest Of Forking Paths’ is a smooth track about the seemingly unending choices we face. An allegory of the repetitive nature of deciding amongst alternatives at a dizzying rate. Bad Rat?’s latest offering opens our eyes to the reality that despite it being that way, we still manage to have lapses in judgment. Slow at picking up the lessons and learning from our mistakes, we often walk into dangerous paths that causes our bodies, mental health, and souls to deteriorate .
Despite the haunting and daunting lessons it imparts to us listeners, Bad Rat? still manages to capture our imaginations with the imagery it paints. With gentle vocals similar to storyteller filled with ancient wisdom and instrumentals laced with beats that astonish. We are led to a mystical forest filled with identical forking roads wherein a peculiar scenario keeps repeating itself. As if asking over and over “are you sure about that decision?” this mirrors the scene from Ice Cube’s movie ‘Are We There Yet (2005)’ wherein we hear the all famous quote “Are we there yet? Are we there yet?“. Thing is no one’s laughing here, just this eerie silence that penetrates your bones urging you to make the right choice this time around.
