Dean Lewis is once again pulling at our heartstrings in his latest single, “Truth,” a heartfelt ballad that conquers betrayal within a relationship. The song, which was released on May 30th comes ahead of Lewis’s upcoming album The Epilogue (Deluxe), which is set to release on July 11th.
Building onto his already personal discography, Lewis’s lyrical intentionality is heightened, creating a refreshingly relatable space for listeners to channel their innermost feelings. The Epilogue, which came out on October 18, 2024– featured twelve songs and brought listeners deeper into Lewis’s world that navigates love, friendship, and what happens when both are lost.
Soon The Epilogue will be expanding with the release of the deluxe version that will feature five new tacks. With three songs available to stream including, “With You”, “I Hate That It’s True”, and “Truth” and two yet to release titled, “Hurt So Bad”, and “Iris.”
The latest of them all being “Truth,” tells the story of two lovers separating after all trust between them fades following heartbreak. In a post shared to Instagram late May, Lewis wrote,
I wrote it about being betrayed by someone I loved. I tried to capture that feeling with the lyric ‘my darling what have you done.’ Finding out for the first time. For the artwork we went back to the exact same cabin where we took the photo for waves. This song I consider the sister song to waves, because it has the same feeling and world, so many people have said over the years that waves helped them.
~ Dean Lewis
“Waves,” which released on September 30, 2016 and was featured on Lewis’s EP, Same Kind of Different, was an instant hit. Featured on shows including Riverdale and Suits, Lewis’s raw emotionality grapples with an uncertain future while attempting to move forward from the past.
“Truth,” picking up where “Waves” left off, visualizes the fear of the unknown. Exploring what it means to take a new step after living in a steady phase and questions what our worlds become when everything seems to capsize.
