Compass & Cavern is on a roll. Following June’s releases “I Discovered The Future” and “This Time,” the alternative rock band does not disappoint with a fresh single to savor. “Adolescent Eyes,” released today, gives fans one more reason to eagerly await the five singles coming soon, leading up to a full album in 2025.
Denver-based duo Will Timbers and Chris Fruci, longtime friends and the creative force behind Compass & Cavern, created a song that delves into the intricacies of aging and maturing. According to Compass & Cavern, “Adolescent Eyes” encompasses two distinct attitudes that lead singer Will has toward growing up.
Looking through the lens of a younger self illuminates the complexities of coming of age. From a disillusioned perspective, Compass & Cavern sheds light on rushing to grow up, even as the world loses its luster. An edgy sound builds and builds an atmospheric soundscape, featuring killer guitar work, layered synths, and an anthemic melody.
Midway through, a wistful tone emerges, marked by a memorable guitar riff, representing the simplicity of teenagedom. Think: dialing memorized numbers on your parents’ home phones. The track’s experimental elements and evolving structure have us hooked. Here the sound takes a more melodic sensibility — “Adolescent Eyes” is both reflective and regretful, just as nuanced in nature as navigating coming of age.
