Grammy-nominated Chris Lake and Disclosure made a highly-anticipated return with their single “in2minds” released through Black Book Records / Astralwerks. It is a first-time collaboration between the artists, inviting a marriage between Chris Lake’s dark, deep house rhythms and Disclosure’s garage and eclectic dubstep. The result? A bold and futuristic manifestation of tech-house.
The track is brimming with energy. Various hits of thick, wavy sounds and stuttering, filtered synths invoke hypnosis. From start to end, the spontaneous nature of the instrumental entertains the brain and body, subtly switching pace and texture in nearly every section. This liberal, experimental use of a tech-house soundscape is notable. While the bassline remains consistent in timbre, the middle and top layers pull attention from various directions.
“In2minds” came to life in just one studio session, thanks to the artists’ rigor and attention to detail. Lake calls the collaboration “fun and natural” while noting the palpable ambition and creativity that filled the room: “Disclosure and I are both pretty technical and with this song, it feels like we kind of flexed on each other a little bit.”
Guy Lawrence of Disclosure added, “This is just the first of a few bits we have cooking. I hope you all enjoy this one,” teasing more work to come.
The crowd at Cercle Festival in May 2024 was the first to hear a preview of “in2minds,” during a Disclosure B2B Mochakk set. The second preview of the track came in July at Black Book On The Pier in Brooklyn, NY during Chris Lake’s set. The DJs finally joined up for a final tease in August, at Disclosure’s Friends & Family pop-up in Los Angeles, CA. Crowds could not get enough of it, asking for the full ID. Fellow industry giants such as Four Tet, Joy Orbison, and Ben UFO praised “in2minds” as well by mixing it into their shows throughout the summer. The track also inspired remixes from Hamdi, Carlita, and Todd Edwards, to name a few.
Chris Lake and Disclosure maintain top positions in the dance world, respectively achieving joyous success in 2024. Lake’s hit “Summertime Blues” with Sammy Virji held strong at #1 on the dance/electronic club charts for weeks on end, eventually receiving a Danny Howard “Hottest Record” award in the UK. He also released a global compilation album from his label titled Black Book ID’s: Chapter 8, which included several top hits of recent years. Disclosure’s domination remained unshaken with the success of “She’s Gone, Dance On,” earning accolades such as “Hottest Record” on BBC Radio 1, and #16 on Billboard’s Hot Dance/Electronic Songs. Lastly, both artists closed out 2024 with exciting fall tours, enchanting EDM fans from coast to coast with headline sets, club sets, and festival sets.
