On November 30th, British neo-soul artist Celine Love released her new single, “Like You Like That.” It’s apparent that Love is influenced by Lianne La Havas, and that influence has mixed with the more electro-R&B influence from the U.S. to create a perfect hybrid of sensual, smooth, and scattered. Why is “scattered” a compliment?
Because we all have been in this headspace before. The lyrics tell the story of a woman who is struggling with romantic feelings for someone they don’t want to have those feelings for, which is incredibly relatable (at least for this writer). The scattered nature of the emotions behind the track comes through in the lyrics while the production is smooth and sensual.
The only qualm I have with “Like You Like That” is that it’s too short. Which, for me, is never usually an issue. I fall under the category of getting annoyed by songs being too long. However, with just one more verse, “Like You Like That” would hit the level of any track on Lianne La Havas 2020 self-titled album (that is to say: perfection).
As it stands, though, “Like You Like That” is an incredible song that deserves your listens. Be sure to check it out below!
