Who doesn’t know the feeling of waking up the morning after a party where we may have overshared a bit? Rising LA-based indie artist Carmela dropped her newest single “Word Vomit,” which retells this familiar tale in a way that may or may not be autobiographical.

Carmela’s music screams sheer soul and talent. It inhabits a compelling junction of indie-rock with a beautifully nostalgic Y2K feel. Her musical journey is full of milestones such as collaborating with large brands such as Colgate and Dr. Pepper. Apart from collaborations and covers, Carmela writes and records her own music. In 2022, she released her amazing debut album New Stranger and toured parts of the US and Europe as well. With her powerful voice and energetic personality, experiencing Carmela’s performances live is a must.

“Word Vomit” takes the listeners through a night at a party, full of social anxiety and regrets over having talked to much and overshared. The song starts out with a catchy guitar intro and Carmela finding herself presumably at home after a party, almost sore from all the talking she did. We all know the attempts at making connections and talking to people, as well as the frustration that comes from one-sided conversations. Not only can we feel the predicament through the masterfully crafted lyrics, but also through the instrumentals. The guitars set this wonderful 2000’s pop-rock vibe, while especially hammering down on the tragic feel of the situation in the interludes following the choruses.

“Silence makes me panic
My mouth running again
Anxious, feel so depressed
Dissect everything I said”

~ “Word Vomit”

Carmela somehow manages to turn the topic of social anxiety into a rock anthem. She further addresses the regrets that come with hindsight. Overthinking troubles her mind, as secrets she shared and the non-stop talking she did, run through her head. She painfully dissects all the things she said, while at the party, surrounded by people, the own silence was so troublesome that the talking couldn’t be helped. Moreover, the drinking only encouraged her oversharing more, resulting in her “choking on her word vomit.”

“I drink, just ignore it
I think I’m too honest
Won’t speak, that’s a promise
I choke on my word vomit”

~ “Word Vomit”
