Spotify and Backline partner to launch a groundbreaking mental health initiative that provides support and valuable resources for artists and their families worldwide.
Heart & Soul, Mental Health for Creators Initiative
Backline, a nonprofit organization for mental health and wellness resources for music professionals, has partnered with a major player in the music industry: Spotify. Together they launched Heart & Soul, Mental Health for Creators Initiative.
As part of this initiative they introduced a Global Mental Health Resource Hub. It is a game changer for creatives of all levels. This multilingual platform offers resources, like crisis support, personalized wellness tools, and local care access. All these services are also available for the creatives’ families.
“Our work together will help ensure that artists have the resources, support, and stability they need to thrive both personally and professionally.”
Hilary Gleason, Backline Executive Director & Co-Founder
Backline also introduced a dedicated help support line. Artists can browse a variety of resources and services tailored to where they are. In addition, they can email or call the case managers to discuss their needs.
Equally important to mention is the complimentary guide, Mind The Music. Whether you need to stay grounded while out on tour or prepare for work in the studio, the tools in the guide will meet you where you are.

Furthermore, Spotify and Backline’s support and reach does not end there. They also provide 1-1 therapy access to EQUAL, GLOW, and RADAR ambassadors in the US and the UK. They also offer grants to cover the cost of therapy, in studio residency opportunities, support for songwriters, and wellness events. All these services are funded through Music’s Mental Health Fund.
“Heart & Soul is our commitment to the creators behind the music. Artists and songwriters face immense pressure, and their mental health can’t be an afterthought.”
Lauren Siegal Wurgaft, Head of Social Impact, Spotify.
It is important to note that the music industry has always been a tough environment. Creatives at all levels often face high pressures, such as tough demands of touring, creativity burnout, the weight of fame, and more. Living in the spotlight means almost no private life which takes a toll on so many. In short, this sad reality makes Spotify and Backline’s first of its kind global initiative a great move in the right direction.
By joining forces and initiating this change, both of them are redefining the access to mental health care and wellness. Ultimately, Spotify and Backline shape a better future for the many artists who shape our music culture. And we are here for it!
