London-based soul and folk artist Gigi Wilde unveils the depths of her inner self with a rendition of “Who Knows Where the Time Goes.” Originally released by folk rock band Fairport Convention, Wilde’s version encapsulates the essence of its introspective, soulful nature. Her ethereal vocals blend with delicate acoustic guitar and light percussion. “It’s a song that’s lived so many lives with different musicians,” Wilde explains. “For me the lyrics are defiant, delicate and deeply sad and I wanted to create something that really showed these in the music as well.”
4. “Bobby & Joe” – Hepcat
Californian ska and reggae band Hepcat have released their latest groove-infused, soul-drenched track, “Bobby & Joe.” Composed of syncopated, up-beat rhythms, harmonized melodies and contagious saxophone licks, the piece is vibrant at its core. “Bobby & Joe” can be found on Hepcat’s latest remix album, Scientist Meets Hepcat: Scientific Dub Special. Closing out today’s selection is “One Way or the Other” by German-based singer, songwriter, multi-instrumentalist and producer M. Byrd. Lyrics such as, “Dreaming of another life / One way or the other / Somewhere where it’s you and I,” exemplify Byrd’s reflections on the birth of his first child.
