Here are our latest alt-pop and R&B picks, featuring Fousheé, Pool Girl, COIN and more!
1. “Did I Just Die” – Naked Giants
First up on today’s list is “Did I Just Die,” the newest single by Seattle-based indie rock trio, Naked Giants. With a music video set behind the lens of a vintage camcorder, the rock-esque track bleeds nostalgia and those inevitable questions about the past. “The lyrics narrate the journey of growing up and discovering oneself through changing relationships and social circles,” says Grant Mullen, the band’s vocalist and guitarist. “. . . Despite longing to return to simpler times, the song captures the joy of new romantic experiences and the peace found between life’s extremes.”
2. “feel like home” – Fousheé
Fousheé continues to make waves in the R&B scene with the release of her latest single, “feel like home.” The track is a wholesome tribute to the people who make a place feel like home. With layered, bell-like synths and captivating vocals, the Jamaican-American artist establishes herself as a multifaceted powerhouse. “feel like home” falls into her upcoming LP, Pointy Heights, which fuses her Jamaican roots with Reggae influences and fresh sound. Fousheé is expected to play at Paris’ Les Toiles on Oct. 4 and London’s Jazz Cafe on Oct. 7. Tickets can be found here.
3. “Along For The Ride” – COIN
“Along For The Ride” by alt-pop band COIN is an honest reflection of being fooled or led on in a relationship. Lead singer Chase Lawrence sings, “Just say it to my face / Don’t drag it out this way / You fool me and keep me along for the ride.” The song can be found on COIN’s newest album, I’m Not Afraid of Music Anymore, an electrically intimate 14-track collection of candid feelings and catchy melodies. The band will begin traveling North America on their headline tour later this month. Find a venue near you here.
4. “Spinning” – Pool Girl
Entrancing vocals and indie instrumentals embody Pool Girl‘s vibrant new single, “Spinning,” out via APOLLO Distribution. The track marks the artist’s third release this year, following indie sensations “Seeing You” and “I liked it.” “This track was written when I first moved to Los Angeles,” says Pool Girl. “Everything felt new and exciting — so this song is really about the feeling when you meet someone for the first time and the anticipation of what could come from that. It’s also a special track to me because it’s the first song I learned how to produce on.”
5. “Somebody To Lose” – Altara
Wrapping up today’s list is “Somebody To Lose,” an upbeat love anthem by Irish-born Altara. The infectious new single embraces alt-pop themes and bright instrumentals, making it a perfect Thursday closer. “Somebody To Lose” also marks the first single to be released from Altara’s upcoming debut EP. “When I find myself falling for someone, I get very in my own head & can make everything too heavy,” Altara explains. “I wanted to write something that made light of that, I wanted to show myself that catching feelings doesn’t have to be deep & over the top, it can be fun, easy & even embarrassing in the best way. This song really helped me reinfoce that.”
