The U.S. House of Representatives has passed the TICKET Act to create transparency in ticket pricing. The bill aims to reshape the way the ticketing industry operates.
If enacted, fans will be able to have a better buying experience when it comes to their favorite events. Sellers will be required to display the full price upfront, with no hidden fees or surprises at checkout. Not only can fans celebrate no more hidden fees, but they will also not have to worry about being duped by non-existing tickets, or worry about inflated prices. According to the act, sellers cannot offer tickets they do not possess.
But it’s not through just yet. The Senate still has to vote on the TICKET Act before it heads to the President for approval. The Biden Administration is also focused on eliminating ‘junk fees’ such as process charges and service fees.

The TICKET Act was introduced by Rep. Gus Bilirakis (R-Fla.) in June 2023. The legislation gained momentum after fans sued Ticketmaster in 2022 due to its failure to handle the demand for Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour tickets. This incident led to a Senate Judiciary hearing to scrutinize Ticketmaster’s dominant role in the industry.
In December, a similar bill called the Fans First Act was introduced in the Senate. Multiple music industry groups formed a coalition called “Fix the Tix” to support and advocate for fair ticketing practices. In April, the coalition organized a letter signed by over 250 music artists. Some artists include Billie Eilish, Green Day, and Lorde, urging the Senate to pass the Fans First Act.
As fans eagerly await the next concert, sports game, or theatrical performance, the TICKET Act promises to transform the ticket-buying experience. Instead of a stressful scramble, the bill would create a more seamless transaction. With transparent pricing and consumer protections, fans can focus on what truly matters: enjoying their favorite events.
Although this bill is relatively new, people everywhere are urging the Senate to act quickly on passing this bill to protect artists and fans everywhere.
