The realm of biopics continues to evolve as Hollywood revisits and retells the stories of cultural icons. The renowned American musician Bob Dylan is up next, played by none other than the rising talent Timothée Chalamet.
As the superstar actor continues to showcase his range, he adds playing Bob Dylan to his resume. The ambitious upcoming biopic, A Complete Unknown, reenacts some crucial moments in the legendary musician’s career in both story and song. More specifically, it is based on Bob Dylan’s revolutionary, notable use of electric instruments in 1965, starting a movement in music that nobody would have seen coming. Timothée has proven his commitment to authentic and refreshing performances, most recently shown in his explorative musical debut, Wonka. In an interview with NME, Chalamet revealed he gained access to about 12 hours of unreleased Bob Dylan tracks, allowing for deeper character immersion.
The film will be directed by James Mangold, most recently known for biographical sports drama Ford v Ferrari and Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny, the most recent addition to the iconic series. Combining Chalamet’s compelling whimsicality with Mangold’s penchant for engaging narratives, fans are intrigued to see how this pairing will bring Bob Dylan’s story to life in A Complete Unknown. Monica Barbaro and Elle Fanning will star as artists Joan Baez and Sylvie Russo, respectively, each a former lover who undeniably inspired Dylan. The depiction of these pivotal relationships will surely enrich the understanding of Bob Dylan’s sensibilities as a person and musician. Filming started officially this March 2024 in the busy and vibrant New York City, although there is no official release date yet. Timothée donned a matching suede jacket and boots, finishing the look with sunglasses and a cigarette, as shown below.

Expectations are high for A Complete Unknown as excitement for the film simmers from Bob Dylan and Timothée Chalamet fans. Check out a recent clip from the set here to see what’s coming.
