Until 9 formed in 2020 in order to stay sane during lockdown. Previously crossing paths over the years, each band member had worked together in various outfits that required high standards of versatile musicianship. However, the desire for “originality” became the catalyist for this new incarnation. A tenacious attitude towards songwriting quickly formed, and by October 2021 the copious amount of new Until 9 material was whittled down into the strongest six songs for their debut EP: “Look at me Now.” This EP was a calculated effort to show off the widest spectrum of Until 9’s abilities and talent. Featuring an ebb and flow of multiple metal and hard rock genres, the music forms a layered platform for stunning vocal performances that transcends a single style. Two singles were released from LAMN: “Headstone” and “Skin”. Until 9 have been Metal to the Masses finalists, and had already supported internationally touring bands such as Authority Zero.
Off of their 2022 album, a metal-core rock song called “Pigs” was sent out way and took me by surpirsed. With vocal styling similiar to Serj Tankian from System of a Down, and instrumental almost sea shant like, this specific track is an amazing piece. This song tosses you from thinking it’s another pirate metal song but avoids falling into the stereotypical potholes by singing about unrelated subject matter and utilising different musical techniques. With its combination of metalcore intensity and swashbuckling narratives, this track invites listeners to embark on a musical voyage where the seas are as turbulent as the riffs, and the pirate spirit is alive and well. So, hoist the Jolly Roger, raise your tankard high, and let the sounds of pirate metalcore carry you into uncharted waters.Check out this song and all their other works HERE on Spotify!
