REI AMI Brings the Heat in Self-Titled Music Video

Korean-American pop artist REI AMI has dropped her sultry music video for the self-titled track “Rei Ami” from her praised debut mixtape, FOIL. This marks the directorial debut for Samantha Long who is a longtime collaborator and Creative Director for the artist. The video has AMI emoting hardcore ‘girl boss’ energy as she dominates over her helpless captive, played by singer and real-life boyfriend, Christian Blue.

Self-proclaimed as “Hello Kitty with a Knife,” REI AMI has blended a playful pop persona with a dark, ferocious bite. Her talent has been recognized by the likes of Travis Barker, YUNGBLUD and Billie Eilish, where she has co-signed with the latter. Having already garnered millions of streams, REI AMI has cast a spell on her audience.

There is a duality to her pop persona as she isn’t afraid to reveal an aggressive devilish side while still holding on to something vulnerable and raw. The “Rei Ami” video is just that. The Harlequinesque acrobatic chain choreography and swinging of the hammer exhibits a rough seductive edge that shows no mercy. And yet lyrics like, “Hello Kitty on the hatchback/Blew off and popped like mentos” juxtapose the images with a playful quirk.  Curated with a moody aesthetic and sinister palette, AMI shows the versatility of her performing skills, guaranteeing high energy and all eyes on her.

Noting on the inspiration and vibe behind the song REI AMI says,

“I just talk a lot of s*** in it and I just feel myself. I made this song because I want my fans to mosh pit while reciting my name on some cult s***, you know, because I think that’s really cool.”

While this up-and-coming artist has just wrapped her first tour bringing high-energy performances in support of artist Tinashe, many more shows can be expected in the future. Cementing herself in the industry in 2019, REI AMI has already become a dominating force, paving her own path and not letting anyone stand in her way.
While she holds us captive as we wait for what’s next with this enigmatic pop force, you can stream the entirety of the mixtape across streaming platforms. And check out the official “Rei Ami” video below:
