Electronic composer Oneohtrix Point Never has announced a new collector’s edition release of his most recent album Magic Oneohtrix Point Never on Blu-Ray disc featuring immersive Dolby Atmos Spatial Audio Mixes. Coming on October 29, the one-year anniversary of the record’s original release, the new single-pressing run includes the full content of the original album; four bonus tracks, including a newly released song with Elizabeth Taylor of the Cocteau Twins called “Tales from the Trash Stratum;” and sixteen music videos from OPN’s collaborative work over the past eight years; all of the content is mastered for both stereo and spatial audio. This release marks his first foray into immersive audio after his scores for the films Uncut Gems and Good Times.
The eclectic producer and composer has worked in a diversity of styles over the course of his career, ranging from alt-rock to commercial pop, orchestral arranging, and sample-based music. He came into the mainstream with his 2009 record Rifts, and has continued to break new ground since then, and recently achieved some commercial success, playing on US late-night TV for the first time last year.
He was the music director for The Weeknd’s performance at the Super Bowl LV Halftime Show; The Weeknd also executive produced Magic Oneohtrix Point Never and appeared on the album as a guest vocalist.
The other three bonus tracks on the record include an alternate take of “Lost But Never Alone” and a separate version by OPN’s boss at PC Music AG Cook. There is also a reworking of “Never Alone” featuring Spanish-language sensation Rosalia.
The Dolby Atmos mix of the record will also be made available on streaming services that can support it following the DVD’s October 29 release. The DVD bundle is available to pre-order now.
