On a rainy and cold Wednesday, the evening was a bit warmer thanks to the event presented at one of Copenhagen’s most happening venues – Pumpehuset. The hot name for the evening was an American hip-hop artist hailing from Chicago – Mick Jenkins – coming back to remind Danish fans that his presence was not one to be forgotten, as it was his first show in the country since 2016, performing his latest record “Pieces of a Man”.

I got to the venue just in time to watch the first act show which was a Danish DJ and music producer – Roger Beattaker. The venue was completely crowded, and everyone was dancing, enjoying drinks, and getting in the right mind of excitement for the main event of the evening to the tunes of Roger Beattaker’s chill electronic music.

Shortly after 10 p.m., chill-out music was replaced with the powerful hip-hop tunes as soon as Mick Jenkins appeared on stage. With the bright back stage illuminations, he slowly approached the microphone to provide first lines of the evening with very enthusiastic reaction of the fans keeping good spots in the front row. With his slow and gentle flow, Mick started with a few tracks from the latest album to dig deeper in his discography to older tracks, presenting material from older records, starting with fantastic performance of ‘The Water’.

At this point of the evening, he was controlling the crowd eager to get more and more music. The whole show was finished after 11 p.m., with fans leaving being very happy about what they experienced as they headed out from the club. It was very nice “middle of the week break” music and I can only hope that his next return to Denmark is sooner rather than later.
