In the ever-evolving landscape of experimental music, Aurelia and Icarus Moth are about to push the scene further with their upcoming EP, PROMETHEANS. The lead single, “ABRASIVE,” released April 25th, gives listeners a glimpse into their upcoming boundary pushing work.

The Birth of a Sonic Rebellion

Featuring Icarus Moth’s experimental electronic production with Aurelia’s raw, intense vocals, this track pulses with an aggressive energy. The vocals move between spoken-word-like sections and more melodic moments. The repeated lyric “Feeling abrasive” becomes almost a visceral mantra, capturing the song’s core emotional state. Sonically, the track feels like a musical representation of these lyrics, with each beat feeling like a deliberate act of rebellion against expected, traditional musical norms.

The track “ABRASIVE” emerged from a moment of raw emotion and unbridled creativity. Aurelia recalls:

“‘ABRASIVE’ came together in an incredibly spontaneous and cathartic way, I walked into the studio filled with rage, as Icarus Moth was building this beautifully chaotic track. The vocals — like most on this project — were recorded as a one-take freestyle where they just let me fly. This EP was always meant to be a space for total creative freedom and unfiltered self-expression.” – Aurelia.

“ABRASIVE” is a testament to the duo’s commitment to pushing musical limits, with producer Icarus Moth noting,

“The whole concept is asking to break the rules sonically—compressors were harmed in the production of this track.” – Icarus Moth

The song’s creation was as spontaneous as it is powerful. Recorded in a single, cathartic take, the freestyle vocals captured the very essence of both artists’ creative freedom.

An Exploration of Identity

The accompanying music video is just as groundbreaking as the track itself. Aurelia took creative control, from directing, producing, to styling, and editing. Drawing from experiences as a creative director and photographer, what began as a playful concept eventually transformed into a profound multimedia exploration of identity, language, and human connection.

The Artists Behind the Magic

Aurelia, a New York-born producer, vocalist, and artist, brings a unique perspective to the project. With a journey that began from a place of personal healing and growth with mental health, they have quickly become a rising star in experimental music. Their work has already garnered over 1M global streams and recognition, especially with hit tracks like “Sinister Things” and “Wax”.

Icarus Moth, Brooklyn-Colorado based producer, composer, and pianist, approaches music as a producer who refuses to be constrained by any genre. With 30M global streams and successes such as “Don’t”, “Reputation”, and collaborations with other boundary pushing artists such as MOTHICA, Ehiorobo, and Crystal Fighters, Icarus Moth brings a distinctive sound that bridges experimental electronics with musical storytelling.

PROMETHEANS: What’s to Come

Set to release on June 30th, PROMETHEANS is more than just a collaboration between the two innovative artists. It is years of labor and love from the two long time collaborators expressed and explored through sound, visuals, worldbuilding… a project that speaks to the beauty of artistic freedom.

“ABRASIVE” is now available on all streaming platforms, offering listeners a first glimpse into this innovative world. PROMETHEANS is due for release June 30th.
